Question:

Need Help Removing Engine from Grand Am?

I am working on a 1997 Grand Am GT (2.4 L Dual Overhead, automatic transmission). The engine is shot and I am working on replacing it.I have disconnected everything (all wires, tubes, etc) from the engine. I have removed all bolts that I could find holding the engine and transmission together, including the three bolts connecting the fly wheel to the torque converter. The problem is, when I use the engine hoist to try to lift it out of the car, the transmission will not disconnect from the engine; the transmission wants to come out as well.I have looked everywhere to try and find what might be holding the two together and I am unable to find anything. I know I have to be missing something, but I don't know what it is. I have looked for diagrams online so I can compare that to the engine/transmission to see what I have missed, but I cannot find any.Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I really do not want to have to pull the tranny as well. I am at a loss. Thanks again!

Answer:

Your not suppose to remove the engine by the top. your suppose to drop the engine from the bottom. as in you gonna put it on the hoist and dropp the motor. ITs a FWD vehicle. your only suppose to lift the motor if its real wheel drive but pontiacs are FWD. Hope it helps
