I bought a chandelier from Ikea and I am having trouble wiring it. The colors do not match the colors in the ceiling. There is also one extra wire in the ceiling. This chandelier is to be controlled by a switch. Chandelier wire colors:WhiteBlackGreen/yellowCeiling wire colors:RedYellowBareBlackPlease help! Thank you!
in case you look on the ceiling the pink cord is used for lights and the black cord is for direct potential or that's no longer linked on the different end. you will locate that in case you get rid of the conceal plate on the sunshine change the pink one is linked on the change. connect the warm lead black from the sunshine to the pink cord the white wires are floor and could all be linked alongside with the sunshine white cord, the fairway is a protection floor and could be linked to the container in some way and how it develop into is high quality. flow away all different wires on my own they do no longer something to do with the sunshine they only desire a container to end and start up in yet they artwork to run potential to different factors of your abode.
Are you in the United Kingdom? That’s the impression I get from the ceiling wire colors you described. Under the old British standard, black is neutral and red is hot.
You do have a problem there, the colors in the ceiling are not standard. So black goes to black(hot), then green/yellow goes to the bare copper (ground). Now the tricky part is, you'll need a test meter to figure out if the yellow in the ceiling is the neutral which should go to the white. I would test between the yellow and the black in the ceiling (with the switch on) to see if there is 120V there. If there is problem solved, if not check between the red and yellow. I am guessing that either the red or the black will be the hot and the yellow will be the neutral. The one you do not use, I would cap off either by putting a wire nut on it or electrical tape.
Since your ceiling wires are not standard, we can only guess. Chandelier: Black = hot White = neutral Green/Yellow = ground Ceiling: Black = hot (connect to the chandelier black wire) Bare = ground (connect to the chandelier green/yellow wire) Red is usually the color code for power that is controlled by a wall switch. Yellow - I have no earthly idea. Could be a 2nd switch controlled wire. You need to get a test meter to see what wire has power 100% of the time (hot), what wires have power part of the time (via wall switch) and what wire(s) have no power at all (ground/neutral wires).
