Question:

need help with my boiler?

i have ideal elan 2 boiler and need some help wit it, the piolt light went out yesterday while the heating was on, we wasnt in at the time. i have got the piolt light lit again but now the heating wont come on, you can hear the boiler firing up and the pipe leading into the radiator upstairs is getting warm but the radiator isnt, do you need to put pressure in these boilers, i have bleed all the radiators in my house but i have now run out of ideas and the only thing i can think f is there isnt enough pessure. i am use to new boilers, i'm hoping i'm being typical female and that it is easy to solve rather than having to call someone out to fix it

Answer:

not an expert but i believe there is a circulator pump, that circulates the water that could be your problem.double check the water level and bleed the system of any air unless you have a steam boiler, then it would not have a pump you might have to call a hvac tech if it is a pump..good luck
Yes it could be not enough pressure. Look for gage on boiler. It will show temperature and pressure. Should be 10-15 lbs. Should be a fill line from your domestic water supply that should refill system. They are usually valved off to prevent flooding if a leak occurs.
If memory serves me right this is an old(ish) open vented boiler with a feed and expansion tank in the loft or similar. The symptoms you describe suggest it is not boiler related as its firing up, its not control related as its firing up so it must be a circulation problem which leaves the pump. If you can locate the pump (possibly airing cupboard) and identify a make that will be of help. If its a dark red its most likely to be a Grundfos and will have a large silver screw on the front which can be removed and behind it is the pump shaft that can be turned with a small screwdriver(need a small bowl or towel as it will weep)if its free to turn with everything else on then its gone if its stuck the screwdriver should move it,replace silver screw. Some of the blue and grey coloured pumps have a large black nut on the front that unscrews but is captive, pull out as far as possible and rotate(does the same as the screwdriver)result as before. As a rough guide touch the pump carefully and if it is very hot is probably stuck other than that its probably failed. If you cannot see any of the above bits on the pumps you will be needing an engineer.
