Question:

Need ideas to replace these curtains?

I have just moved into what we would call a quot;granny flatquot; in AustraliaAn little 1 bedroom house built at the back of another house on the same block.I am a huge fan of just picking stuff up off the street and with a little money updating it - the table and chairs you can see in the picture were being thrown out by someone and I saved the pieces recovered the chairs and glossed up the table.ANYWAY the curtains are GROSS! Apologies to anyone who likes this sort of pattern but I am neutrals browns greens with pops of color not grandma floral!Problem is they are about 12 feet wide and buying new curtains would cost several hundred dollars which I do not haveI can't use blinds etcas the right side is the entrance to the quot;housequot;.Any ideas for a cheap alternative to replace them? They are on tracks and I have a friend who could sew on a pleated edge thingy (whatever you call it) to run the curtains on tracks .

Answer:

The curtains aren't THAT gross, so you can relax until you find a replacementOne idea is to mix similar colors and prints, from narrower curtains, in an advante garde sort of way - something no one else hasWill be unusual, compliment a whole bunch of accessories in the house, and will be yoursLook for sales and your local thrift storeYou seem to be very good at repurposing.
You need to insulate the duct work leading from the fan to the outsideWhen the warm exhaust air contacts the cold duct work, water condenses on the duct and then drips back into your bathroomWhile you're insulating your ductwork, make sure it vents out the gable end wall or through a roof ventVenting out the soffit or just below the soffit is not recommended due to moist air drafting into the attic space.
It is from the warmer air in your house making contact with the cold air outsideThe water in the air is collecting on the cold surfaces you can start by making sure the vents flap where the vent exits the house are on and opening and closing like they should if they are staying open or have broken off the cold air can come into the house easier and make the vent in the bathroom cold so the water can condense on the fan and starts dripping.
