Question:

Need Your Opinion. Why is Diesel Fuel so costly.?

I have read Wikipedia as to why Diesel Fuel can cost so much so please don't send me any links. Just want your opinion or 1st hand knowledge. My understanding is that Diesel is supposed to be the lowest cost fuel to make. but it costs the most. Why???

Answer:

Supply and Demand.
Blame it on taxes and gouging at the pumps. We farm and it's eating us up! There isn't much difference in off road diesel either.
Simple - supply and demand. The demand is high right now, from countries like China and India with growing economies. The supply is consequently lower, which drives up the price. No new refineries plus growing demand equals higher prices. You're seeing a similar trend in corn prices, ever since the ethanol boom started.
Yeah, I think since it is in higher demand, the cost goes up. It's my understanding that diesel is easier to make than gasoline. Back in the 70's it was cheaper than gasoline. But since a lot of vehicles use diesel, the cost goes up because the market will support it. Still, gallon for gallon, diesel gives better milage. But it stinks.
Supply (roughly half as much gasoline) and demand (it's used for far more different purposes) Trucks, trains, ships, generators, power plants, furnaces, use diesel. Pretty much the only things that run on gasoline are motorcycles, ATVs, cars, light trucks, prop planes, and power tools. If diesel were taxed like gasoline, it would cost even more.
