Question:

Never drove in snow, Washington to Buffalo in January?

Folks,So I never drove in snow, never used chains. This would be my first. I am trying to see the best way to get to Niagara falls (US side) from Washington DC would the route be snowy? Would it be risky for me to drive? Are there any specific routes which might be better? Should I totally avoid driving and fly instead (it's costlier, I just checked). Tips and comments please? Thanks much!
