1.) When you are near a farm, one might notice that a silo has metal bands around it to give it strength. Also, that the bands are closer together near ground level and are spaced farther apart near the top of the silo. Why is this so?2.) There is a legend of a Dutch boy who bravely held back the whole Atlantic Ocean by plugging a hole in a dike with his finger. Is this possible and reasonable? Estimate the force if the hole were about 1 sq. centimeter in area and 1 meter below the water level.
