i wanted to know what's the difference between a keyboard and a piano. at school we are learning instruments and i was gonna choose piano. but at skull they use a keyboard. and since pianos are expensive i would rather buy a keyboard. So my question is what's the difference between a piano and a keyboard? Can i practice piano on a keyboard? Will it sound the same?
keyboard is the electronic on, it sound different because it is a made sound rather than the natural notes from a piano
If you can play the piano you can easily play the keyboard. Keyboards are a cop out. You simply use the music found in the keyboard to accompany yourself. You don't have that on a piano, or on any real instrument. Keyboard players use the right have to play the melody, and perhaps one finger on the left hand every so often to change the harmony/accompaniment. However, you can use a keyboard as a piano if you turn all the accompaniment stuff off. To begin with there is no real difference, you just need the notes. However a piano has a different action (the keys of a piano are heavy and move differently), the sound on a piano or even a good electric piano will be far FAR better, and a piano (whether acoustic or electric) is larger. I would say you can almost certainly get a real acoustic piano for cheaper than a keyboard. People give them away, or sell them very cheaply. Trouble is they're large and cheap ones may have broken notes. However these can usually be replaced quite cheaply. So long as it's kind of in tune with itself (even if it's in tune with nothing else) it will serve for a beginner.
does it really matter it is just something that can play music but i like the piano myself
no not at all. if you haven't enough money buy a digital piano. cause keyboards don't have real klaviers and if you play with your keyboard a few years and someone say come and play a little piece with this real piano your hands and fingers aren't hard enough to play piano klaviers so just buy a digital one if you can't buy acoustics.
Main difference is: one is obviously accoustic and the other is electronic. And yes, you can practice on a keyboard, but it's preferable to use a piano whenever you can if you're not going to buy one. Also, the board can be more sensitive to touch, but you don't have much control when it comes to dynamics; so no, the sound will be anything from slightly to completely different. If you're going to only play for school and then stop after, maybe just get a keyboard; there are some decent ones out there that aren't too expensive, and are nearly like playing an actual piano. But it's really up to you and how serious and dedicate you'd be. Some places let you hire/rent them (keyboard, as I'm not sure if you can do the same with a piano) for some amount of money for as long as you want; and if you decide that you want to keep it, they'll take off what you've already paid while renting it (that is if you haven't already paid it all off) from the original price. Happy playing )
