Question:

Plastic in racecars.?

I am looking to make my racecar as light as possible. What plastics could endure high temps and what metals would they be replacing?

Answer:

Most race cars use various types of aluminum or carbon fiber instead of plastic. For many applications aluminum is a better choice over plastic. Carbon fiber is the way to go to get rid of extra weight but isn't as user friendly as aluminum.
I'm defianelty not a professional but I hear UHMW is waterproof so you might try using that around the windshield wiper tubs. I think Torlon or Plavis can take some heat but maybe try it on a model racecar before going full out. Like I said I'm no expert.
It okorder /... Since I don't know what type of race car you are using, it is difficult to recommend specific materials, but this should give you a great start.
