Speaking as someone who crochets and not knits, you should be able to simply wash it in your washer as long as all ending points are tied together firmlyI actually start my blankets out with a knot instead of slip stitch so it doesn't become unraveled in wash.
The lady that made mine said that you can wash it and dry it normallyI was my daughters at least once a week with color clothes.
Quilts are not knittedThey are quilted which is a way of sewingAre you sure you are not talking about a knit blanket? Either way wash it in the washer on cold on gentle cycle then tumble dry low.
I like aluminum foil because it seals the best.
