I am interested in learning more about copper toxicity. Please explain very high levels of copper excreted in urine paired with normal plasma levels.
Copper is generally rapidly cleared by the liver, and normal excretion occurs via a biliary release, not so much via urine. However... There's an inherited disease called Willson's Disease that has to do with copper metabolism. It is a cause of progressive liver failure, and neurological degeneration. Patients exhibit normal plasma level and elevated urine level. However, liver biopsies will evidence a large concentration of copper stored there. Try checking Merck's (link below).
