I need help with maths and expanding brackets like what what these to be 4(2x+3) and 3(3m-3) and how did you figure it out??
8x + 12 9m - 9 Multiply by number that lies outside the brackets.
The things inside the brackets are called 'terms'; a 'term' being a group of symbols connected to others by + or - signs. So in the 1st example, 2x and 3 are both terms. To expand the brackets you multiply both (or all) terms inside the brackets by the quantity which is outside the brackets. Thus in the first example, 4(2x+ 3) 8x + 12 and in the 2nd, 3(3m - 3) 9m - 9
