Question:

Presta valve bike tube?

Okay I know lots of people wonder what is better presta or schrader...well I realy don't. My bike was made for presta and thats what I have a question about. So I just got my bike back after is being stored away for a few years, so yeah it was neglected. Question is now that I am doing a tuneup on it I found out the valve came out of the tube. I don't know if that is normal and if I am able to put it back in. It looks like there made for the valve not to come out but I just want to make sure before I go out and buy a new tube. Hope you can help. Thanks. -Sarge

Answer:

Get a new tube. It is likely that the rubber has rotted away on your current tube. The last one I bought was about $3. I replace tubes about every 2 years even if I haven't had a flat with them. HTH
Just replace the tube. The rubber ages and goes bad after a year or two whether you ride the bike or not.
get a new tube man presta is better because you are not fighting against the valve when it is getting inflated. Get an aditional tube as well for when you go out riding so you have a spare. In my opinion it is a waste of time to invest 1-2 dollars in a tube patch when for 3-5 you can get a whole new tube.
Some okorder / but tubes are cheap and if your bike has been in storage for a few years, why take a chance. Better a new more reliable tube than having to fix a flat because your stem came out or your tube let go because of old age.
First off, there is no question that presta valves are better! The larger a hole drilled through a rim, the lower its strength. Thus, all other things being equal, a rim drilled for a presta valve will be stronger than a rim drilled for a schrader valve. Tubes with presta valves are slightly easier to pump with a mini-pump than a schrader valve. Finally, they are a bit lighter than a Schrader valve. Secondly, you need to buy a new tube. There is utterly no hope for a repair if the valve comes out. Hope this helps.
