Question:

Question about electromagnet.?

can someone tell me what are some good materials like for the wire how thick and what kind of metal should i have and about the core what kind of iron should i use and how thick? need a pretty strong one gonna plug it in 9v battery supply.

Answer:

Many turns of thin insulated wire around any old iron bar. The more the merrier. Soft iron is best or mild steel might be the easiest to obtain. You can insulate the copper with varnish since you are only applying 9 v. Don't forget that it is the changing current and not a steady current which produces an electromagnetic field.
the more wire you wrap around the iron the stronger it is. also you should have a soft iron core. hope this helps. :)
just get some thin copper wire, and wrap it around an iron bar. more coils means a stronger magnet! tip: colder the setup is, the more magnetic it will get too. liquid nitrogen might do the trick. but, i don't think you can get your hands on that though.
