Hi, can anyone tells me when we don't use the heater, do we need to turn off the gas boiler? Like during summer or warm time.
just turn your heat off at the thermostat. if you turn the boiler off completely you will have to have the pilot lit when you want to use it again. i have a gas for my heat and i only turn off my heat at the thermostats.
if your boiler has an electronic ignition. just shut the breaker off for the boiler and close the gas valve. I dont know how mutch this will save you in gas and electric but try it
To answer your question directly, No; there is absolutely no good reason to shut the unit down in the off season. It is actually quite the contrary; there are many beneficial reasons to leave it on, especially a boiler unit. And, for the person talking about a “ceramic thermocouple”, there is no such thing as a ceramic thermocouple. Thermocouples are constructed from two different metals, the type of thermocouple it is, depends on the types of metal used. At any rate you don’t mention in your question what type of ignition system your unit has.
Mine has a switch near the boiler that effectively disconnects the thermostats so the boiler won't run. It will give the same effect if you turn all of the thermostats down. I'd advise against turning the pilot light off- assuming it has one and isn't electric ignition. If you turn it off, it is hard on the ceramic thermocouple and it will fail much quicker. Any savings from not burning the pilot will be lost on the replacement thermocouple.
