Answer:

You know, Doing it yourself seems to be easy, but a job like you are talking about should be left to the pros, You have thing to consider, like the venting, and you also need some vapor barrier, plus the insulation type to be used, Because there is the standard fiberglass and there is some great new stuff out the reflects radiant heat, such as the sun in the summer and the house heat in the winter, also there is the foam that only pros can use because of fire laws Ask for free estimates from every one you can get, Don't hire a electrician, or a carpenter, that's not what they do, Hire an Insulation installer because that's what they do, work out a down payment and a regpayment planbecause you are messing with the roof over your head, you ruin that and your house is junk, I am sorry this might not be the answer you was looking for but I have had DIY jobs before and you will save more money hiring a pro, times are hard and they have to eat tobut let them know you don't have allot of food on your table eitherWork it out and let them do it Right the first time.

It might be ok as long as you do not have another vapor barrior under the planks like tarpaper as is commonly used under flooringAssuming there is not a second vapor barrior, you can just lay it on the floor as you describe.
