I need a new surround left speaker for my surround sound system, and was wondering if I could buy single speakers, and does it need to be the same kind as the speakers that I have currently or can I just get any old speaker and that will work when I hook it up?

The speakers with the all-in-one system only work with that system. The ability to mix parts - or even repair the thing - was given up for the low price. If it is a name-brand speaker, then you should try to get another speaker of the same make and model as the right-rear. This is so the sounds will not shift tone as they swirl around. Ideally - all 5 of your speakers should be identical but the back 2 can be different, but they should match.
