Question:

Rice is still crunchy after cooking! Help?

I needed to prepare broccoli, rice, cheese side dish for today's mealBroccoli was steamed in microwave, cheese was the campbell's soup (broccoli cheese)And it is apparent now that I do not know how to cook riceI did 6 cups of water, 4 tspof butter and 1 whole bag of rice (2 lbs.) ok-after boiling and simmering, I thought it was doneSo I mixed all 3 ingredients together, then wanted to put it in the ovenTasted it after mixing it together and found out that the rice was still crunchyWill it soften up after cooking in oven? And how long do I bake it? And to say this againI have not cooked rice before except out of a box.

Answer:

In the oven, it keeps the top of the meat from drying out and overcookingNever use foil in the microwave.
Used in ovens to distribute heat evenly, not used in a microwaveWould spark the out of the metal in the microwave.
Aluminum foil actually keeps the microwaves OUTI microwaved a Klondike bar for 2 1/2 minutes, the foil was mostly flat so it only sparked a tiny bit but the ice cream inside was still frozen after all that time.
You might be able to fix it by adding more liquid to the mixture in the casserole dish, like 1and 1/2 cups water or chicken broth, cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake at 350 for about 30 minutes, check rice for doneness and casserole for liquidiness- you may have to go back and forth with liquid, more cream soup to thicken, covering and baking until you get it right.
