Question:

Rust on my aluminum shed?

The roof of my Arrow aluminum shed is rusting. I want to re-paint it.Do I need to sand the rust off? Then prime paint? Can I just spray Rust-Oleum, then paint it? Any recommended brands?

Answer:

Well, aluminum will not rust. the roof must be made of sheet metal. clean it with a wire brush and use rustolium paint. if you want to check if it,s aluminum just see if a magnet will stick to it. they will not stick to aluminum.
sand and Rust-Oleum is the way to go
Go to hardware store and ask them for cleaner for aluminum siding. It a light acid based soap, powder you mix in water to wash down your house. Then you just paint.
Yes. It will rust so fast that it will literally disappear overnight. You will lock it up outside one night and come back in the morning and the magic rust will have eaten right through the bike and the lock as well. Strangely, the lock will look broken or cut. This is due to the insidious college-type rust known as thievery. If your bike's worth anything at all, don't lock it up outside the dorms. That's like putting a sign on it saying free bike. Some enterprising student will see it as a direct challenge and absolutely will not rest until it is his. As for actual rust, it also depends on the local climate. Go to school in Arizona or Southern California and it'll take a lot longer to rust than it would at NYU or Oregon St.
