Science questionJust two answers.?

Okay when an aluminium atom (Al) turns into an aluminium ion (Al3+) does it gains, loses or shares 3 electrons? Also when an oxygen atom (O) turns into an oxide ion (O2-) does it share one, two or three eletrons, and why cause i put two but it was wrong? Please answer 'cause I need to know for a science test.

Answer:

Al loses 3 electrons to form an Al3+ ionAl has three electrons in it's outer shellYou don't seem to have cottoned on the basic concept that reaction is all about gaining or losing electrons to achieve the electron structure of the nearest noble/rare gasSo oxygen will gain two electronsBecause the formula of the oxide is Al2O3 a total of 6 electrons are transferred in the reactionREMEMBER what reactions are all about: Happiness is a full outer orbit of electrons.
