sedimentary rock identification?
If this is for a class I would suggest you identify them first then compare to my answers. 1. Coal 2. Crystalline Limestone (also called mudstone or micrite) (if you have the sample you should confirm this with the acid test (limestone will effervesce)). 3. Sandstone 4. hard to tell in the picture, but it looks crystalline. I think it is rock salt, but it could be rock gypsum. I would need to taste it to be sure. 5. hard to be sure in picture, but I think it is Chert (Jasper) 6. Travertine 7. Coquina (pure fossils) 8. Fossiliferous Limestone (it is full of crinoid stems) 9. Rock Gypsum but possibly rock salt (depends on the taste) I hope this helps.
i'm majoring in geology, and that i can not detect a million/2 of those with in basic terms image on my own. like countless different individual reported, look up photographs and chosen the excellent look alike. stable luck
