Question:

ships which carry iron ore are called?

ships which carry iron ore are called?

Answer:

In the US great lakes they are called Ore Carriers a subset of Bulk Carriers
Cargo ships are classed usually according to the way they are loaded and unloaded. Generally iron ore is bulk loaded into holds. So you would call an iron ore carrying ship a bulk loader. If the ore was carried on a ship that carried all the equipment to unload and load the ore itself it would be called a SELF (LOADING) BULK LOADED ship. Other main types of cargo ships are: RORO (Roll on Roll off) that carry cars trucks and cargo that can be driven on and off the ship. CONTAINER - that has all the cargo loaded into containers that are stacked onboard the cargo ship. TANKER - be it carrying oil, gas, water or some other liquid form product. And LIVESTOCK, that are fitted with pens and ramps for animals.
Cargo ships. Doesn't matter the cargo----regrigerators, chocolate, or iron ore. Or you also might call them tankers, but usually, tankers mean liquid cargo like oil or petroleum.
