Question:

Should I buy a car alarm system from the dealership?

Should I buy the car alarm system from the dealership? I just bought a 2011 Honda Accord. I was trying to get one for $250 dollars and they charged me $375 bucks for it at the end stating that the cost was $345 bucks for the dealership. I think the guy was lying to me. He stated that if i went somewhere else like best buy they would void my Honda Warranty. He also stated that i would than have two remotes since the one from the dealer wouldnt work. Any truth to any of this?

Answer:

Installing an alarm system from Best Buy or any other installer WILL NOT void your car's warranty. Any alarm system you do have installed will come with new remote control key fobs, because the car's original equipment fobs will not operate the alarm system. And YES, the guy lied to you.
Sounds like a out of balance tire or a bent rim have that tire balanced.
when you got hung up you could have lost a weight off the wheel or broken the belt in the tire !
If you buy an alarm (or whatever) at a place like Best Buy, the mfr has a reason to void your warranty. Any time the factory equipment is altered, the warranty does not have to be honored by the mfr. If Best Buy splices the factory wiring harness, or does any mods to the car, you run the risk of having your warranty voided. It is not Honda's responsibility to fix your car that someone else screwed up. Honda should not have to cover that. Yeah, dealers overcharge for accessories like alarms. So what? If the dealer will honor the warranty if there is a problem, then you are better off. Look, you bought a $20,000 car, and are whining over $125? Seriously, stop worrying about the friggin alarm and enjoy your new car. 5 years from now none of this will matter.
For the extra 100 bucks, it was worth it To #1 be sure that it's compatible with your car (without jacking with the wiring whch WILL void your warranty) For it to be compatible with your existing Honda Remotes, instead of some cheap $$ remote not nearly as nice as the honda ones. For you to have somewhere you can take it to if the alarm malfunctions, that is also where you get your car serviced. (very convenient) They may have made a little profit on your on the alarm, but profit is not a dirty word. Every business needs to make a profit. If you love the car and the alarm works great, I'd let it go, and be happy. ($375 is definitely not a RIP OFF type of price for an alarm)
