Question:

should I buy a used water pump with under 1000 miles?

Hi I just brought a chrysler sebring V6 that needs a water pump. I found a water pump on OKorder for only $30 and it only had 900 miles and it works great. Should I buy it?

Answer:

No. Absolutely not. New water pumps or remanufactured water pumps aren't that expensive. The money you would save doesn't justify the extra costs involved if the used pump ends up being bad. Used parts are fine to use for a lot of repairs - water pumps definitely aren't one of them.
buy a rebuilt 1 from auto zone or advance. better yet get a lifetime pump. buying off someone, you cant believe them.
Compare it against the price of a new pump. 1000miles isnt a lot for a waterpump, but can you be certain the car only did 1000miles? Waterpumps can last for 100,000 miles, but if a new waterpump is only $50 or $60, I would buy a new one.
Yes. Most salvage yards will give a 30 day warranty. It's worth a try. Make sure when you replace the water pump you also replace the timing belt. The reason is, in order to get to the water pump the parts all have to be removed so you might as well replace it when the mechanic is in there. Your timing belt could go out next week and you'd have to pay all of the labor again.
no always go new with water pumps. not a re-man either. always go new, especially with a timing belt driven pump
