Question:

Since a laptop has a battery pack do they also have a CMOS battery?

If yes then why? They can always keep a little power in a capacitor for use during battery pack changes. My Toshiba laptop has no mention of a separate battery in any documentation. If there is please point me to it.

Answer:

Yes, the cmos battery is what keeps track of time and not losing all your data on the pc.

There cannot be a CMOS battery. CMOS is a semiconductor (Complimentary metal oxide semiconductor) and cannot act as a battery. battery needs two electrodes and an electrolyte in between. But there are components called super capacitors which can hold charge for quite some time to give supply to clocks, RAMs, Micro controllers etc.
Yes they (generally) do have separate CMOS batteries so you can disconnect the main battery or run it flat and the computer will keep on keeping time. They may not document it if it's fixed and meant to last the life of the laptop. A Lithium battery will last at least 5 years and a laptop probably won't last 5 years!
