Hi, I found a penny that is copper color but has worn some and is now showing a sliver color. How common is it to find one and is it worth anything?
1943 penny is made of steel, most pennies are not all copper they have zinc and nickle in them
All new pennies are copper clad zinc. If your Lincoln Memorial penny has a date before 1982, it is made of 95% copper. If the date is 1983 or later, it is made of 97.5% zinc, with a thin copper coating, or clad. As time goes on this coating gets worn through and the zinc starts peeking through. Its more than likely worth 1 cent and nothing more.
