Do I just run the wire from the panel into the charge controller and then to the battery AND can I simultaneously draw energy from the battery while it is being charged by the panel?Is it as simple as hooking it up like that?
The solar panel wires go to the charge controller. The charge controller wires go to the battery. You can also run wires from battery to a load ONLY IF it is DC load. If any AC loads, then you need a inverter to change dc to ac.
When you connect a charge controller to a PV system it is always advisable to connect the charge controller to the battery (already charged) first and then to the solar module. No sooner you connect the appliances to the system, you can use them as the solar modules (panels) charge the batteries and the appliances you have connected get this current. You don't simultaneously draw current from both sources, you draw current from the battery which gets charged from the PV module. It is as simple as that !
You have to keep the polarity straight. Red is positive + Black is negative - I don't know how much amperage you are drawing, or how many amps the solar panel puts out. This charge controller is a device I am unfamiliar with- What does it say on it? how many volts? how many amps?
I hope you have some instructions. You need safety switches and fuses in the circuit. What voltage/currents are you running? Don't burn the house down or get electrocuted please. DC can be very dangerous.
