Question:

Spark Plug Wires?

Who makes the best spark plug wires? i think the ones on my car are crap...they are Mag*star O.E. replacements, and they suck. What do you recomend? Its an 89 thunderbird

Answer:

As with all makes and model vehicles on the road, the best replacement parts is what it came with from the factory, in your case, Motorcraft is the origional equipment replacement ( OEM ) but they are usually available only from the dealership parts dept, which usually is a hard hit to the wallett. A good quality replacement set of plug wires that I use in my repair shop is Napa premium silicone plug wires, ( they also may carry the name Beldon ) They have a lifetime warranty for as long as you own your vehicle. They are fairly expensive, but they are good, I use them in my own vehicles. If I may add to that, I had a problem with one of the wires on my Ford pickup about a year ago and I have had those wires about 6 or 7 years I think, I took them back to Napa, and got a brand new set, no questions asked. My pickup has been running fine since.
Motorcraft from Ford. They are made specifically for your car.
Get some bosch wires.
If you want the best spark plug wires get a set of Belden wires. They are the best without modifications such as enhanced coil, etc. While Motorcraft wires are OE, the Beldens are by far better and will last longer. Good luck.
The best plug wires are the ones with the least ohms per foot... MSD 8.5mm wires has about 40 ohms per foot and thats about the lowest you will find w/o getting into solid core race wires (not good on OEM cars with EFI, car radios, etc) All of your stock type wires, parts store replacement wires, etc will have between 1,500 and 3,500 ohms per foot
