Question:

STAGE LIGHTING CONFUSION!?

i have to write this paper and i want to include the lighting of the venue and i wanted to know what u call the lights that shine on stage and the ones that highlight the audience....all i can remember is house lights....so, where would that fit? lol if that makes sense. [thanks for all responses!

Answer:

Lights shining into the audiences eyes are called audience blinders
Very basically house lights shine on the the audience, stage lights on the actors. There are any number of types of stage lights, the most typical being par cans. Lights that bathe the entire stage in color are generally referred to as wash lights, and lights that highlight only a part of the stage are spot lights (a moving spot light is called a follow spot). Past that you get in to ellisoidals, fresnels, moving yoke lights, and specialty lights like gobos, oils etc.
