Question:

Stainless steel dog bowl vs. plastic?

Has anyone ever heard that plastic bowls take the color off a dog's nose? With our old golden the vet said a certain type of bowl would make this happen? Is this true or just a myth?

Answer:

There okorder / Plastic bowls in general can contribute toward feline and canine acne on the chin, which is usually where their skin comes in contact with the bowl.
A myth. Stainless steel are better for cleaning and carry less bacteria than plastic.
i use porcelain for water it keeps it colder and i do use plastic and my lab did have a black nose when he was younger it is slightly lighter in color now at 3 yrs old but in not sure if its from the bowl. i would use stainless steel if your feeding raw
Plastic bowls tend to leak chemicals into food and water. What is recommended is stainless steel which can be easily cleaned. I have ceramic and wash it about twice a day. I also use filtered water.
Personally I use stainless steel for my own dogs because ti is easy to keep clean, and doesn't weigh too much when I am carrying 3 large bowls full of food. Plus when I drop them they don't break. The only reason I don't use plastic is because my dogs like to chew anything plastic :P I use plastic for my foster cats and foster puppies and have never had any sort of infection. Personally I think that is some sort of myth as I have never known anyone's pet to get an infection from a plastic bowl. As long as you keep them clean, plastic or stainless are both fine
