Question:

Stock 2000 Monte Carlo fuse keeps popping?

I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS that is stock, as in no aftermarket radio/electrical equipment and the fuse for the a/c and cruise. I noticed it popped when I bought the car and each time i put the same size fuse in or a bigger one, it automatically pops. I pulled the dash apart and all of the connections are good so I'm not sure of where to go.

Answer:

Go to an auto electric specialist. You've apparently got a dead short somewhere in the wiring for this circuit, and you're not going to fix it by replacing the fuse a dozen times.
You have a bare wire somewhere touching metal. That is the only reason a fuse will pop. It#x27;s a pain in the a** to find, but that is the only way you can fix it. Don#x27;t put a bigger amp fuse in! That is a sure way of setting your car on fire.
Need to know which fuse exactly is blowing. Never EVER install a larger fuse, good way to melt the wires If the fuse blows when you turn on/off the A/C compressor, usually the diode is blown which shunts the voltage spike. some of those are inline near compressor while others will look like a fuse but black with an arrow on top of it
The fuse is a safety mechanism it will burn or pop as you say before damage can occur to the electronic component if it continually pops/ burns out that usually means there is a short in the wiring or on the part itself. Electrical problems can be a real pain in the a$$, even if you are experienced. So if you are not mechanically inclined I suggest not to try to track this problem down by yourself.
get the electrical schematic, find the cable's color code pertaining to AC and CC, now star back tracing them from AC- compressor clutch back to fuse box or relay and CC unit and back to same place as AC, to the fuse box or relay, pay extra attention to a cable that is long enough to rub against metal(hanging against), whether its valve cover, chassis, any bracket, engine exhaustor that it got pinched between 2 pieces of plastic and chassis, any bracket and body basically you are looking for a sign of tear and wear on the cables insulation that allows the inner bare wire to touch metal(chassis). look over the net for a Monte Carlo forum you will find a better answer there and to many many other future questions. gl
