Question:

strong plastic bag smell?

Today at the grocery store they put my food in a normal plastic bag but it smelled really strong, almost like the way someone smells after they smoke a cigarette, but I knew it was a toxic smell from the plastic.. Could this be dangerous? I felt like my lungs hurt and very drowsy afterwards but I am also a hypochondriac so I'm not sure if I was overreacting and imaging it.

Answer:

New plastic has got its own characteristic smell which is from the organic compounds that they use in the final process. If one is left in a room with tonnes of new plastics they would experience some lack or air type symptoms. But carryng two or three plastic bags from a grocery store would pose minimal danger, Infact the danger is non existent. By the time you get home the smell of newness in the plastic is gone!I guess its the hypochondria at work.
