Question:

Tankmates w/ my Dwarf Lionfish?

What would be some ok tankmates with my Dwarf Lionfish? 75g tank, around 73 degrees water, plenty of hiding places, soft substrate (Dolomite), protien skimmer, basically everything in a regular tank. No anemones though.

Answer:

The general rule is to choose fish that are larger than the Lion's mouth. A Foxface Lo or Kole Yellow Eye Tang would be a safe choice, and also help control algae. A Snowflake Eel would also make an interesting and hardy tank mate, as would a Yellow Wrasse or Humu Picasso Triggerfish.
Dwarf Lionfish Tank Mates
Lionfishes are some of the most spectacular fishes you can have in a marine tank but the problem is that they are predators. To keep lionfish in any sort of community tank you should ensure the other occupants are at least as big as the lionfish or they will be eaten, and having plenty of hiding places won't necessarily save the smaller fishes so you should choose other predators to share the tank. Most triggerfish are strong enough to survive and the clown trigger especially is quite spectacular to look at. You could also add a spotted barramundi cod or a harlequin tusk. Remember that all the predators grow very quickly so you must be careful not to overstock the tank which may overload your filtration system. Good luck I hope this helps
