Question:

Teaching my dog to not lay on the sofa.?

My mom have got a new sofa two weeks ago, my dog loves to jump up on the new sofa and sleep. My mom does not want him to sleep on the new sofa. He keeps getting up when we are not looking. How can I teach my dog to not sleep on the new sofa?

Answer:

We just got our first puppy a few weeks ago and my mom is the same way. We have a trainer coming to our house once a week, this has been something we are working on. If you roll out a sheet of tinfoil across your couch the next time your dog jumps he will get off of it. They don't like the feel on their paws. Another thing that can work is a spray bottle, if he jumps you say down and at the same time give him one squirt. Trust me they learn fast! Good luck! :)
its really just about training and constant supervision, you might need to get a tall gate or crate him/her when you cant watch. i know my dog can jump, but whenever i put the gate (which is only as tall as he is) up he knows not to go past it
well you probably at one time put the dog on the couch or played with it there maybe? My dogs get on all the furniture cause they are family members but to break one I did use mouse traps on the couch. they dont get into the traps but when they go off if they touch them it startles them and makes them think the couch isnt a fun place to be anymore.
When you catch him on the sofa, tell him to get down, put him in the sit position and give him a treat. He will eventually learn that not going on the sofa is a good thing. He will probably still go on the sofa when you aren't home, though. Dogs are silly like that. You could also get him his own comfy bed or doggy sofa.
Hi! All you need to do is make the floor seem a really fun and great place to be for your dog! If on the sofa, just take him to the floor and play with loads of treats and toys, if your dog wants your attention - you go to his level, not the other way around!! Eventually after lots of positive reinforcement to being on the floor your dog wont have a reason to want to go to the sofa! When you leave or go to bed, shut the door or corner that particular area off so the temptation is not there! Hope this helps! It will take time but it will pay off! I promise :)
