It‘s something I really want to do, I find myself longing for it often. Tile or ceramic, not sure yet. But, my house is 1485 square feet and I‘m wondering if anyone has a ball park estimate for what price range I‘m looking at! I know different variables like tile vs ceramic, etc, but just looking for a range if anyone can help. Thanks!
I advise using ceramic tile rather then regular tile. It costs a little more, but it's worth every penny. Also, you'll be really pleased in the end if you choose a mingle of darker earth tones. We removed all the carpet from our home and had ceramic tile put in. My spouse chose a gray-cement tile for the upstairs. I chose the mingled earth tones for the downstairs. Cleaning these tiles is like night and day. Everything shows up on the gray. Whereas the downstairs tiles have never appeared to be dirty even when they are sometimes. I think we paid between $1.50 and $1.75 per tile at an outlet store. Don't let people tell you that shouldn't buy tile that is no longer being produced, since if one breaks you won't be able to replace it. All we did was buy more than we needed. The extra box remains unused because none of our tiles have ever chipped or broken.
do it yourself and save tons of money.
You can count on paying $7 to $12 a square foot depending on material. Thats just basic flooring, if you want anything high end, then expect to pay more accordingly
i am doing the same thing and my house is also 1485 sq ft 4 bed room 1 bth living room and kitchen and u dont want to know the price , i checked with lowes and for slate tiles for my kitchen it will cost over 1000.00 for my kitchen , 12x16 room minus where the cabinets are at they said u have to put down a cement like glue then put down a cement like board then the tiles and grout , the 1000.00 is only for the supplies not the labor , for ur other rooms hard wood would cost less than tile or new carpet
Very expensive when you consider $4-$5 or more per sq foot for installation costs, plus the cost of the tile itself. Tile , whether ceramic, slate, marble, etc., will require a cement backer board [$1+ per sq ft], mastic mortar[ $.50+ per sq ft], grout, sealer, etc.. For 1500 sq ft this will add up fast, even if you do the labor yourself. Consider resale as well. Some option to consider might also include under-tile floor heat at least in the bathrooms, usually well worth the expense. I personally share your likes as far as tile vs carpeting, but future home-buyers might like a more rounded choice, such as hardwood flooring. If you have ever stood on a concrete floor for long periods [painful on the back and joints], this is what a whole house of tile will feel like. Hardwood flooring has a little cushion to it.
