Question:

What to use for a split wire?

The Ac power cord for my laptop split, leaving exposed wires and it no longer powers my laptopI tried to use aluminium foil, but only works for a short whileIs there anything else I can use to keep the current flowing?

Answer:

plate is thicker than 6 mm foil is thinner than .2 mm sheet is between 6 and .2 mm
There is no difference technicallyBut thicker sheets are normally referred as plates.
plate thickness is 6mm or more, sheet is is 6mm or less but more then foil which is 2mm
Plate metal is much thicker than sheet metal.
Cut your wire in halfway pointsplit the 3 conductor wire by removing the main insulation mantle approx2 from end then strip individual wires about 1/2 from the end of each conductor twist each copper lead tight sepearately leaving 3 wires bare extruding to a poinr do the same at the other end twist each conductor fromeach wire (same color ) together one at atime as you twist make atight connection use U.Lapproved black electricians tape for each connection seperately once all three are completed seperately then use a final wrap to combine all the 3
