Question:

the brackets that were put on my for my braces seem to be not centered on my tooth, is this a technique?

I had my braces put on a day ago and of course I was studying them in the mirror and looking at my top teeth I noticed the way the orthodontist put on the brackets. The brackets aren’t centered on my teeth, in fact the front two teeth the brackets are really low and I don’t like the way it looks. I'm wondering if this is some sort of technique used by orthodontists. Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:

The brackets are placed in very specific places on each tooth. As was mentioned before, once your teeth are aligned, the braces will also be straight. Placing the braces close to the edge of the incisors is sometimes done in patients that have a deep bite - or a lot of overlap top-bottom of the front teeth. When the wires are placed into the braces, the forces are more ideal to intrude or move the teeth in such a way as to correct the deep bite. In patients that have an open bite, braces are sometimes placed a little more towards the gums.
They will not be centered on your teeth. They are placed at certain angles to straighten your teeth, they will eventually appear to be centered, once your teeth are straight. I hope this helps you, I used to work as an orthodontic assistant
Well my guess would be so its easier to brush. I have braces(i just got them tightened yesterday so im home from school cuz they hurt) and they put my braces on sort of close to the upper gum and thats the hardest part of brushing, trying to get rid of all the plaque and junk like it stores all of the gunk in between the gum and the bracket. Trust me, you're one of te lucky ones!!
