Question:

Is it ok to broil directly on top of foil?

The directions on a package of frozen potato pancakes say to preheat to broil, then to broil each side for 8 minutes but it doesn't say howIf I place it on a baking sheet, is it ok to cover it with foil and place the cakes directly on top of the foil? Will it give it a metalic taste?

Answer:

Nope! I've broiled tons of things on aluminum foil before and it's never tasted metallicYou can even wrap sweet potatoes in foil, toss them into a campfire and wait for them to get roasted without having to worry about the taste being spoiled.
