Answer:

given a choice between retraining myself to work on electric cars or losing my job, I'd go for retraining. however, no where has it been said that we have to stop having gas powered vehicles. for example, if cars were made out of carbon fiber instead of heavy steel, aluminum or alloys, then most cars would see be able to go 100 mpg, according to an efficiency master, Amory Lovins. Diesel fuel is already more efficient than regular gasoline as well. my point, there is no silver-bullet solution. i believe that in the future, we will rely on many resources for electricity, fuel, and food. for example, have an electric car that runs of a fully rechargeable battery. plug your car into a 100% renewable energy grid such as solar or wind electricity. now you have a zero emission source of transportation. the best thing to think of is first how to green our grid. once we do that, we can start to look onto how we are going to adapt to an oil free economy. for more ideas on the economy aspect look at www.blueeconomy.de peace! :)
Electric will never replace gas 1) electric is too expensive 2)too many people drive long distances and don't want to charge their cars at a gas station for 6 hours half way through a 600 mile trip 3) they don't go as fast, down here in the south, nascar, trucks, and football are our lives. 4) don't put out as much torque. like I said, trucks are life, howre you supposed to take your boat to the lake if you can't pull it in your car 5)we will find another way, alternative fuel majors are looking into toxins that are in nail polish remover and alcohol , other efficient flammable material to replace gas, electric won't come into complete effect in our lifetimes and possible not our kids lifetimes maybe hybrids, but that still won't be too different and down south where I'm training to be a mechanic only pansies drive em.
Well, none really, what would happen is that as electric cars become more popular they would hire fewer mechanics. That would mean the older mechanics would retire and not get replaced. Some would also be retrained. But really people have been saying such and such will be the death of the internal combustion engine since the 70's and it still going strong,
A Most of the so-called gliding stones originate from an 850 foot (260 m) high hillside made of dark dolomite on the south end of the playa, but some are intrusive igneous rock from adjacent slopes (most of those being tan-colored feldspar-rich syenite). Tracks are often tens to hundreds of feet long, a few to 12 inches (8 to 30 cm) wide, and typically much less than an inch (2.54 cm) deep. Some tracks are in a zig-zag form, and have a very straight track left behind.
