took car to mechanic put in timing belt engine coolant and water pump now green fluid leaking what is it?

took car to meachanic on a friday drove home . mecahnic put in timing belt engine coolant water pump car on sunday leaking alot of green fluid and smoke coming from hood

Answer:

WHATcountry are you FROM?? BAD use of english. They used WRONG type coolant and CHEAP parts and CHEAP gaskets! most cars do NOT USE GREEN COOLANTS any more. WHAT KIND OF CAR IS THIS! you MUST use ONLY the water pump and coolant from your DEALERSHIP! all other ones are a RIP OFF and your engine will FAIL earlier! DRIVE over ANY OIL CHANGE pit where they can SEE where your leak is COMING FROM! you MIGHT have to get this WHOLE JOB done again! and you MIGHT even have ENGINE DAMAGE in there by now! SORRY!!!
Almost everytime a mechanic replaces the timing belt, they replace the water pump as well since the timing belt usually drives that pump and it's just practical to do both at once... when they do this, they first drain the coolant (green stuff), then remove timing belt, and water pump (what pushes the coolant around in your engine), they then install the new water pump *and are supposed to also replace the gasket and/or put rtv sealant on the mating surfaces to prevent leaking... I'm going to assume they skipped that step, and the result is coolant (green liquid) leaking out of the pump and making contact with hot surfaces of the engine, which would explain the smoke. Take it back to the shop (if safe to drive, may also want to top off your radiator with water) and demand they fix their messup for free, a good shop will not charge you for their mistakes.
What kinda car is it? I bet you they didn't clean and replace the o-ring in the area where the back of the water pump connects to the cross-over pipe. The area is usually neglected and it'll cause a leak that will run across the LIM onto the top of the bell housing.
Clearly they did not drive it after they worked on it. They messed something up and need to fix it. call them and let them know and don't drive it out of coolant or you will fry your engine.
green fluid is antifreeze. with the hood open start the car and look under the car to see where its coming from...then look up top at the hose connections,,,,,personnally i would phone the mechanic ands have him come out to the car so you dont overheat it and blow the motor.he shouldnt charge you for this as there has to be warrenty...i think he just ddidnt tighten a clamp or screwed up the water pump gasket
