Question:

Used PVC cement for CPVC - ok?

I primed my CPVC pipe with the purple stuff and then used PVC cement instead of CPVC cement. Is this going to be a problem? What is the risk?

Answer:

If the joint is in an area that cannot be seen, I would change it out with a couplings and a piece of pipe. It is no longer code to use a combination glue that was manufactured for both PVC and CPVC. This should tell you that PVC glue on CPVC will probably not hold.
The only time it would make a diiference is when you are actually using it for water pressure. CPVC is used for water supply, under pressure, to your faucets and so on. It's formulated for drinking water where as PVC is not, either way, for what your doing, either cement would work...

First off CPVC and PVC are two different chemical make up. And yes One Cement is not intended to work with another. The worst that could happen is that the fitting could fail and flood. One of the differences is that PVC can only handle cold temperatures. CPVC can handle both hot and cold temperatures. Here in Texas PVC pressure pipe is against code inside a building. The best thing to do is cut out that fitting and replace with proper cement.
