I need four uses but I only have two ore of iron and steelWhat other two can I use?
well, would you rather waste paper, or waste extra money on water bill from washing them.
I would put iron steel manufacture as ONE use of magnetite. You should also note that since magnetite is a member of the spinel group of minerals {M2+,(M3+)2 O4} which are difficult to treat, magnetite is used but is not the preferred iron ore mineral. Haematite Fe2O3 is preferred. Use no.2 Use of Magnetite as a Heavy Media Separator - Powdered magnetite is often mixed with a liquid to form a slurry. These slurries can be used to clean coal from its high sulphur content as fragments containing significant pyrite sink through the slurry whilst the rest floats can be carried away. Magnetite is also used in the dense media separation systems employed in recovering diamonds from diamondiferous gravels (ore). Use no.3 Use of Magnetite as an Abrasive - The abrasive known as emery is a natural mixture of magnetite and corundum. Some synthetic emery is produced by mixing magnetite with aluminium oxides. Producing it synthetically allows control over the particle size and the relative abundance of aluminium oxide and magnetite. Some finely ground magnetite is also used as an abrasive in water jet cutting. Magnetite has a Moh's scale of hardness of between 5.5 6.5. Use no.4 Use of Magnetite as a Magnet - Magnetite, owing to its magnetic properties, is widely used in compasses and other navigation devices.
