It would be pretty extensive to explain in full. It really depends at what level you want to describe magnetic behaviour. The best source for what i studied with is a book published by the Oxford University Press called Magnetism in Condensed Matter written by Stephen Blundell. It is brilliantly written and very clear and concise. This is graduate/masters level. Other than that i'm sure i can reel off some basic desciptions if you don't need something so intensive.
