Question:

Water boiler maintenance?

Hi. I have a Crown Freeport water boiler, model CTPR 4. I perform all of the regular maintenance on this boiler but wonder about the water in the system. Does anyone know if I need to service the water periodically? That is, does it need to be replaced, flushed, additives added? Thanks for any suggestions and help.

Answer:

The water needs treatment and tested once a month. Its not hard to do. If you have the manual it will suggest treatments and testing. If not find a retailer that sells boilers and they can suggest procedures to follow. Your system will last a lot longer with treatment.
there is an Oxygen inhibitor that should be in it, [keeps the pipes from rusting] and of course an antifreeze is there a auto make up valve on it ? other wise it,s fine
rust inhibitors.....some boilers lose water naturally by small amount escaping from pressure relief valves....when you replace the water make sure you pump in either distilled water, ionized water, or soft water from a water softener...hard water is one of the biggest enemies of a boiler system....if you do have an automatic make up ater system make sure it's being fed from a water softener
it is recommended and if you get a thorough service then they do a flush , wouldn't worry uinduly about it .
If your residential hot water boiler is a closed system the water side should require no maintenance. Both Series have almost same standard features. Both the CT and the ODP Series have factory assembled Cast Iron Boiler Sections. Regards, Jlang
