Question:

Weird buzzing sound from my monitor?

Hey. When i take my computer off sleep my monitor has this weird buzzing sound but after a few hours turns off. I have vista and when i change the resolution, the beeping stops. Whats the problem?? its at 1024 x 768 pixels.I dont want it any bigger because it looks out of place and fat.Thankls

Answer:

Vista is most likely running your video card at a MHz higher than your monitor can handle. Try adjusting the MHz in the settings and be sure that Vista has the proper device drivers loaded for that particular monitor.
Im not good in monitor but from my experience, that noise might came from a surge protector which is responsible for informing the user that there is something wrong or unusual things happens to the circuit. maybe it your monitor circuit needs to work harder than its normal operation since you have an vista os, or maybe there is a defective capasitor, transistor or resistor in your circuit
It is probably one of the magnetic components in the monitor buzzing. There is an effect call magneto striction, where magnetic material changes shape under a magnetic field. So the cores in the transformers and coils in the monitor can buzz at the frequency of the current passing though them. Normally this is way out of the hearing range, (For TVs it is right at the top of the audible range) but you can get a sub-harmonic that is audible. When you change the resolution you change the horizontal scan rate and you change or get rid of the sub harmonic that you are hearing. Try changing the refresh rate instead. If you are at 60 Hz vertical refresh then change to 75 Hz (it will stop the screen flickering too) if you are at 75 Hz or 85 Hz, then try the other frequency. This too will change the horizontal scan rate and change the noise.
