Question:

What additives do you use when you get bad a tank full of bad gas?

We added dry gas to the tank after filling up the tank with bad gas. It is running better ( not stalling and hesitating), but not perfect. It is a 2005 Highlander with 55,000 miles, that we have never had a problem with before this. Would an additive for the fuel injector help?

Answer:

Sounds like you might have bought some water with your gas. Don't ever buy gas there again. Always try to stick with major gas companies like Chevron, etc, those little 'joe's gas' places with the low prices tend to also have cheap tanks (thin) that encourage condensation inside, further encouraging it by not keeping their tanks full. Oh, yeah, two years is too long change that fool fuel filter
For the best answers, search on this site shorturl.im/avznK It would have to be some pretty nasty gas to make the car not start. How long was it sitting in there? I would give it a full tune up before the long trip and definitely fill up with high quality gas.
If the gas is contaminated with water, gas-drying additives may help. If it is old gasoline, use a product called sta-bil to refresh the fuel. Other contaminates may require draining the gas tank. A quality injector cleaner would help, and dillute the bad gas with fresh, good gasoline by refilling your tank as soon and often as you can. Many fuel additives contain high percentages of alcohol. Be careful not to overdo the fuel treatment, it may do more harm than benefit. Good luck with it.
