Chances are your actuators are not receiving power or ground through the switch. Connect a test light in place of the actuator to confirm this. Connecting one end of the light to a known good power or ground and one and the other end to one of the two pins at the actuator connector to see which pin is power and ground in each switch position (The polarity of the current to the switch reverses with the switch in lock/unlock position.) and which you are losing.
A couple of points to make here: 1. Yes, trucks are better for off-road which is way more uneven, but do you ever see anyone going over those big rocks and bumps when off-roading at 30 mph? Not really. The truck does have beefier suspension normally (for payloads and hauling), but it's greatest asset is the better ground clearance to go over those bigger obstacles, not necessarily to take them at 30 mph or so. You can (depending on the obstacle and speed) damage your tires, suspension, steering components, etc. It's up to you. 2. Trucks usually have a stiffer suspension which makes going over those speed bumps rather rough. Maybe your parents don't like being jostled so much by the stiff suspension on those speed bumps. Remember they are older than you. Do it for them at least when they're in the truck with you, then do whatever you want when by yourself. Have fun.
