Any insulation is good insulationMany building suppy stores sell that type of product and then rent or supply for free the equipment to blow it into your atticIt's not difficult to do, the store will tell you everything you need to knowThe only thing I would suggest is buying a 6 foot long plastic pipe to put on the end of their equipmentThis will allow you to be alittle further away from the discharge and make it easier to get into the eavesBut make sure you don't go to far and stop the air flowThere must be ventalation in your atticIf you don't understand the store should be able to explain easilyIt is actually a simple job, but you will need a little instruction and dust masks and googles.
I added blown in insulation to my house about 4 years agoIt wasn't that difficult of a processI bought the stuff from Home Depot and they let you use the machine for free if you bought 10 bags or moreI had my wife out of the porch dumping the stuff in the machine while I was in the attic with the hose applying itWe ran the hose through a window and up the attic stairsI used some wooden stakes stapled to joists to give me a reference point as to how deep I was applying itIt has settled a couple of inches over the last few yearsI applied it 11 inches deep in some spots and now it is maybe 8 inchesBut I do notice a difference in the rooms of the house where the insulation was spread in the attic - they are noticeably warmer I wasn't able to apply it everywhere since there is a floor down in part of my attic and I didn't want to give up the storage spaceOn a scale of 1-10 with 10 being most difficult.I rate this project a 4.
