Question:

What are some good surround speakers?

I have my main 3 already. Do surrounds even produce bass or are my Bose cube speakers good enough?

Answer:

The rear speakers only are limited in frequency coming from the receiver. It is mainly used for sound effects. They do not get any frequency lower than 80 HZ, which is normally sent to the subwoofer. Bose are not a very good or reliable speakers. You are not going to find any Bose speakers being recommend by any Magazine that reviews speakers. Beside that they are over priced. You can use just about any speakers for the rear channel.
Hardly at all. You need a subwoofer.
In a 5.1 system surrounds can defiintely produce bass output but for good bass you need a subwoofer so the size of the speakers matters less. The big impact with smaller speakers is that they have such a high crossover frequency it can be hard to match them to the subwoofer. I prefer mid-size bookshelf speakers personally that can go down to 80hz or less which allows the crossover to be 80 to 100 hz. If you are putting together a system you should match the surrounds with the brand and driver type of your front speakers. Systems with the same basic sound match up much better to create a more seamless and believable sound field.
