I work part time from home and have three boy's(10, 6, 4)My husband has a good Job but things are starting to get crazy with the economy so were starting to worry about finances, so we decided to make some cut backs we 1) we no longer eat out.2) we are eating more sandwiches at home3) not driving as much gas is over $4.00 where I live (chicago)4) I'm considering trading my 2005 Honda pilot (suv) for a car maybe a honda Accordmy husband tell's me not to worry about the gas but it's $80.00 to fill up once a week is crazy!
I agree, a lot depends on the grist of the singles and the type of wheel or spindle one uses, along with the experience of the spinnerThe thinner the single, the longer it can take to spin a pound of fiber, and the skill of the spinner determines if s/he gets good yarn in the end.
I re-use sandwich bags, aluminum foil and make sure I wash dishes ONly once a dayI live in Chicago alsoI do all of my driving on one side of town or one direction on the same day to save gasI also shop in bulkI buy bottles of spaghetti or pasta sauce from Food 4 less or other thrifty storesThen I save the jars which can be used again and buy bulk items and put unused portions in jarsSometimes I split meat purchases with a friend or relative and save lots of money.
